The Bonnet Silk Factories are an exceptional, must-see heritage site and a jewel of the textile industry.

The Bonnet Company, founded in Lyon in 1810, set up a factory and boarding school in Jujurieux in 1835. Around 1900, at the peak of its production, the factory employed 2,000 people including over 600 young women. A real hub of industrial activity, the site was intended to be a town in itself and housed spinning and weaving mills, a chapel, grocery stores, a home economics school and even its own tram stop, as well as a boarding school for young women.

Weaving professions, textile design, fabrics and archives make up the unique, rich collection which has been carefully preserved and displayed in the original buildings. The site is listed as a Historic Monument and stands as testimony to the international and industrial legacy of this empire.
